Thanksgiving
Today Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. But when and how did all start?
We have to go back in the early 1600's when the first settlers, called Pilgrims came to North America and established the first English colony 'Jamestown'. Pilgrims were grateful to the Native American, because he taught them how to survive in the New World. So, after their first harvest in 1621, pilgrims held an autumn celebration of food, feasting, and praising God.
Today is the day when all family members gather to celebrate and eat a lot. Turkey is the featured item in most Thanksgiving feasts, this is why Thanksgiving is sometimes referred to as 'Turkey Day'. Also guests often bring food items or help with the cooking as part of a communal meal.

Beware of falling cows!
We all were laughing on Monday class when Kay showed us this photo, but this highway sign isn't there for no reason. It warns drivers or motorists that cows fall onto the road from the hills above. This things do happen and I was amazed when I read the article about this couple who... Well, if you are interested in click on the next link.

What is she saying?!
Ok, ok I know I post too many clips, but this one you must see. We all know how do miss competitions look like, but do we know how do misses answer on these competitions. This video is taken from the MissTeen USA, on August, 2007. It is about Miss South Carolina who had to answer a simple question given by an American "teenage" actress and yes, what was she trying to say it's pretty much confusing. And as a translator I tried to translate her speech, but actually I found it pretty tough!

My blogs of interest
I like the http://www.problogger.net/, because as a blog beginner I found some interesting tips for blogging, for example how to choose a nice topic for your blog, about blog design, how to use titles effectively on blogs and I found out that you can make money from blogs, which is very interesting, but unfortunately I think that it is not for me.
Another blog that attracted my attention is http://www.boingboing.net/ where you can read news about cultural curiosities and interesting technologies.
Last but not least, a blog that it has to do with translation http://www.lingo24.com/blogs/index.html. On this page under Translation Industry news you can find blogs about some translation tools and programmes and at Cristof's blog you find comments on different topics, like the one about Chinese translation still struggling...hmm, maybe it is right time to learn also some Chinese ;)
What about you? Do you read blogs and if so, which one is your favourite?

When did I start to use the Internet?
Hmm...I think that my Internet journey begins in 1998, when I was first year at the secondary school. First thing that I did it was to provide my PC with mIRC (an Internet Relay Chat program). Chatting made me a lot of friends, some of them I still see today, but many of them have been forgotten as I do not chat anymore. Why? Because I become too addicted to chatting and the phone bill of the Internet was also too high for my parents. So, I was not allowed to use the Internet, therefore I stopped chatting and today I mostly use the net for mails, reading news, looking up for unfamiliar words in free dictionaries and I am a great youtube fan ;)

Hello!
My name is Valentina and I am a first year IT student. I decided to study IT, because I would like to learn how some programs work and how to use my PC in the best and easy way.
In my spare time I like to do anything that has to do with sport, it could be walking, running or cycling, etc. I also like to watch interesting films, to read a good book and what I love the most is travelling as well as making new friends.
